- ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆Trying to get our tax return for NC done and about fainted when it looks like we owe $1,352 of income tax. We are retired and on fixed incomes from pensions and social security. No pension is from income earned in NC. We had a little part time job that earned us $3,300 and that is all we EARNED in NC. We have never had to pay NC tax before now since we moved here in 2005. Did doing away with that $4,000 deduction really blow us away? Seems so. Even though our adjusted taxable income is down to $23,314, 5.8% of that is $1352 unless we did something wrong. We cannot find anything else to reduce taxable income. The Republications have created a monster with their so-called "tax reform"By Frances Eury, January 28, 2017
